4 Wines To Drink In The Summer
It’s summertime! Well, almost anyway.
And I don’t know about you, warmer weather and being outside makes me reevaluate my drinking habits.
The name of the game goes from comfort to refreshing for me. That means it’s also time to switch up from my normal dry reds (not completely, because that would be sad!).
When looking for wine that goes well with the summer months, I start to think about what I want to be sipping while at the pool, tubing down the Shenandoah river with friends, kicking back in the backyard with the grill going, and getting away with friends in a multiple bedroom Airbnb.
If my summer list is anything like yours, then so will this wine list.
These are a few of my “must-haves” for wine drinking in the summer months.
On the nose: Peach blossom & raspberry
Taste: Strawberry that is light and crisp
Grape origin: South of France
Varietal: Grenach, Syrah & Cinsaut
Drink this with seafood (hello crab season!) and cream cheese. (even better if you’re dipping pretzels in the cream cheese!)
On the nose: Cherry & strawberry
Taste: Raspberry and light plum (my mouth is watering)
Grape origin: Sonoma Valley
Sip on this food-friendly wine with pizza (hello heaven!), mushroom sauce dishes and medium cheese
On the nose: Grapefruit and orange blossom (can you smell it?)
Taste: Mineral stone fruits & gooseberry
Grape origin: North Coast California
Pair this crisp, summer friendly wine with asparagus, lettuce salad, tomatoes, and grilled chicken or shrimp
On the nose: Toast and pears
Taste: Granny smith apples (so refreshing!!)
Grape origin: Nuits Saint Georges (which has international fame for Cremant de Bourgogne style bubbly)
Varietal: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Gammay
Pop this bottle of sparkling to drink with your fresh fruit and baked apple desserts.
And now I’m thirsty. Excuse me while I go open some refreshing summer wine and get together with friends.
Summer. Friendship. Sunshine. Fresh cut grass. Laughter. Paired with wine.
All my favorite things for this time of year.
Which one will you be grabbing first?
